.tmp) Dear
Katherine,
With the holiday season upon us,
we think of how fortunate we truly are. But the
holidays for some are stressful times and
incidents of domestic violence are all too common.
We ask you to remember those victims,
especially the children and support the Dianne
DeVanna Center. Please read the article below and
give what you can.
The Westwood/Walpole
League will be celebrating the season at its
Winter Social on Sunday, January 10. Details are
below. Please join us for the fun!
Best
Wishes,
Westwood/Walpole League
of Women Voters

HELP SUPPORT THE DIANNE DEVANNA
CENTER
|
|
The Dianne DeVanna Center
The
Dianne DeVanna Center for the Prevention of Child
Abuse and Neglect, Inc. is a non-profit
organization whose mission is to support and
strengthen both individual family members and the
family as a whole in order to significantly
contribute to the prevention of child abuse and
neglect. The Center has established a lasting
memorial to Dianne DeVanna through the development
and implementation of programs in the area of
public education, child and family support, and
crisis intervention. The Center provides services
to families who are currently receiving assistance
from the Massachusetts Department of Social
Services.
So
please remember all those children victims of
family violence who must spend their holiday at
the DeVanna Center and give generously to the
Center. Joanne Carey started our association with
the Center many years ago and our gifts are given
in her memory. As we all know, organizations like
the DeVanna Center are struggling as donations are
down. So your donation will be
even more necessary than before.
Make out your checks to the
The Dianne DeVanna Center and mail them to our
Treasurer Virginia Fettig, 234 Baker Street, East
Walpole 02032. She will then forward them to the
DeVanna Center. This way our League is
recognized for its contribution to the
Center.

PROTECTING OUR HEALTH FROM TOXICS IN OUR
EVERYDAY
LIVES
|
.tmp) Over eighty
thousand chemicals, many of which have been banned
in Europe because they are considered hazardous to
health, have been introduced into our every day
lives. Over one third of the US population is
suffering from chronic diseases, including
cancers, asthma, autism, learning diabetes, birth
defects, endometriosis, diabetes, ALS, and
Parkinson's disease.
These are only
some of the facts presented by Elizabeth Saunders
to thirty participants at the November 10, 2009
meeting on "Protecting Our Health from Toxics in
Our Everyday Lives" held at the Westwood Public
Library and sponsored by the Westwood/Walpole
League of Women Voters.
Elizabeth Saunders the Clean Water Action
Environmental Health Legislative .tmp) Director urged participants
to join with the Alliance for a Healthy Tomorrow
(http://www.healthytomorrow.org) to get these
dangerous chemicals removed from our lives. The
Alliance for a Healthy Tomorrow is a broad
coalition in Massachusetts working to pass laws
and policies that prevent harm to our health from
toxic chemicals. The Massachusetts League of Women
Voters has a representative on their Governing
Board. Their top priorities are to create a
groundbreaking program in Massachusetts to
systematically replace toxic chemicals with safer
alternatives that are better for people.
