 Dear
Katherine,
Our fund drive is in full
swing and we urge everyone to do what they can.
We are running on a deficit
budget this fiscal year and have no other fund
raisers planned. WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Help by
offering names of suggested businesses or donors
in Westwood and Walpole. If you are
willing to visit or phone any of these businesses
(maybe those you frequent?), that's even
better!
Thanks so much for helping to
support you local League!
Best Wishes,

LEAGUE OF WOMEN
VOTERS IS 90 YEARS YOUNG |

There is probably no other national volunteer
organization in America that inspires such a great
degree of commitment from its members. As a direct
result of that commitment, the League of Women
Voters has evolved from what it was in 1920, a
political experiment designed to help 20 million
enfranchised women carry out their new
responsibilities, to what it is today: a unique,
nonpartisan organization that is a recognized
force in molding political leaders, shaping public
policy and promoting informed citizen
participation at all levels of government.
If you haven't attended a League function
recently, now is the time to do so! Coming up on
February 23rd is our Program Planning Meeting. See
below for more details.

Each year Leaguers
meet to suggest new studies or changes to state or
national positions.
This year we are
looking at all our National positions. For
more information go to www.lwv.org
and click on
ISSUES to read about the LWVUS
positions. The League is
strictly non-partisan about candidates running for
public office but lobbies vigorously on subjects
we have studied and have
positions.
This is an
opportunity for League members to be involved in
what goes on at the National level of our
League
Participate!!
Board members are calling for volunteers to read,
summarize, and present positions. Please say,
Yes and offer to
help! It is a great way
to learn more about your League.
Come, Listen, Learn, and
send your message to National. This is also the
time to share your ideas for programs or studies
at the Local
Level.
Bring a friend or
family member. This is a great
meeting to introduce them to the League.
The public is
welcome to join us and learn about the
League. If you are interested,
please contact Marcia Hirshberg at-- info@lwvwestwoodwalpole.org

NEWLY FORMED WESTWOOD CHARTER
COMMISSION
|
|
Mission
The Task Force will review and consider
potential revisions to the current Town Charter,
adopted in the 1970 and periodically revised there
after. The Task Force should conclude with a
recommendation to the Board of Selectmen as to the
aspects of the Town Charter that should be
considered for revisions and the appropriate
process, as defined by state law, for
accomplishing said revisions.
Background
The Town Charter has not been seriously
reviewed or revised since it was adopted in 1970
other than one attempt to make major revisions in
1987. Since its original adoption, the level and
complexity of Town Governance and the services it
provides, has changed dramatically. As a result,
it would be prudent to review and consider
alternative forms of local governance that might
allow for a more efficient manner in providing
service to the community. The goal is to
provide an objective comprehensive review of the
options available for Town Governance from which
the Board of Selectmen, Town Meeting and the
community at large can determine if there is a
benefit to proceeding with a process to revise the
Town Charter in part or in
whole.
Meeting Schedule
The Government and Charter Study Task Force
meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month.
Meetings generally are at 7:30 p.m. and take place
at Town Hall, in the Board of Selectman Meeting
Room.
